A. What is Ghost Call Protection?
It is a new feature which attempts to reduce the number of unsolicited callbacks (also called Ghost Calls).
When the Ghost Call Protection is enabled, our system will call back the registered number only if the caller hangs up before hearing a recorded message (to be sure you should hang up at the first ring and no later than the end of the second ring)
How does it work?
- Caller dials Access Number (DID).
- Our Switch verifies the account has funds and is
enabled.
- The Ghost Call Protection feature waits until
the caller hangs up and then attempts to call back the registered
number.
- If the caller is a customer of UWT, the caller
should hang up right at the first ring.
- If the caller does not hang up before hearing the recorded message, our new feature assumes that the call was made in error and does not attempt to call back the registered number.
Advantages:
- If a call to your Access Number (DID) is
generated by a Telemarketer or wrong number dialing (someone trying to
reach someone else in Miami) then the callback will not be triggered,
and you will not receive an unwanted call!
- An additional benefit is that the callback should not go to your voice mail and should not get a busy signal since it waits for you to hang up. (This problem can occur in some instances especially for US based callers)
Disadvantages:
- Callback will be slower by between 1 to 5
seconds, since our Switch starts to call you back only after you hang
up.
- If you forget to hang up right before hearing the recorded message, you will not receive a callback. So keep in mind, HANG UP RIGHT AWAY AT THE FIRST RING.

B. How is my account set up by default and how is it different?
All accounts are opened without the Ghost Call Protection feature. This feature is only set up upon request.
How does the callback work by
default then?
- Caller dials Access Number (DID).
- Our Switch verifies the account has funds and is
enabled.
- Our Switch initiates the callback immediately
(there will be up to 3 attempts to reach the registered callback
number).
- If the caller is a customer of UWT, the caller
should hang up right at the first ring.
- Whether caller hangs up or not, our switch may have already reached the registered callback number or will attempt to do so for up to 3 times.
Advantages:
- You receive the callback faster by 1 to 5
seconds since our Switch starts to call you right after the verification
is made and before you hang up.
- If you forget to hang up right after the first ring, our Switch will attempt to call you regardless.
Disadvantages:
- In some cases, the callback can be TOO fast, so
the callback could go to your voice mail.
- If a call to your Access Number (DID) is generated by a Telemarketer or wrong number dialing (i.e. someone trying to reach someone else in Miami), then you may receive an unwanted call (a ghost call).
